About The Painting ...

'Almost Home'

A Thames sailing barge heads for it's home port near the Thames estuary.

These sailing barges once plied the river and the south east coast of England.  Motorization in ships and then trucks, eventually drove them almost to extinction.  Some of the barges do still survive and a few are actually still active.  Others have been converted and used as houseboats, but most were abandoned long ago and left to rot away.

This little painting is in oil on gessoed 1/8" masonite.
It measures only 5" x 6".
