About The Painting ...
'R.M.S. Carmania Leaving New
York'
The Carmania is one of my favorite ships. I've painted her
three times now and have begun a fourth. To me, she embodies the classic
look of ocean liners from that era. Quite different than the massive
four-stackers that were to follow in the 1920's and 30's.
She was built in Glasgow, Scotland and launched in 1905. Her
first crossing, from Liverpool to New York, was made later that year. Pride
of the Cunard Line, she was the sister ship of the Caronia. She remained
in service until 1931 and was broken up in 1932.
This small painting, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", is an oil on a gessoed wood
panel. I've chosen to frame it in a wrapped linen liner with a gold slip
to match the frame. The overall size with frame is 12" x 15".
Cost of packing and insured shipping to any location within the
Continental U.S. is $15.00.
